Deep Cleaning vs. Regular Cleaning: What Is the Difference?
Deep Cleaning vs. Regular Cleaning: What Is the Difference?
These are the two most common services in professional cleaning, and choosing the wrong one leads to disappointment in both directions. Book a regular clean for a home that needs a reset, and the team cannot get through the accumulated buildup in the time allotted. Book a deep clean for a home that is already well maintained, and you pay for depth you did not need. Here is how to tell them apart and choose correctly.
What a Regular Clean Covers
A regular (or standard) clean is maintenance. It keeps a home that is already in good shape looking and feeling clean, week to week. At Tidy Tribe, a regular residential clean covers:
- Dusting and wiping all surfaces in living areas and bedrooms
- Kitchen counters, sink, stovetop and appliance exteriors
- Full bathroom scrub: toilet, tub and shower, sink, mirrors
- Vacuuming all carpets and rugs with HEPA-filter equipment
- Mopping all hard floors
A regular clean of a typical Calgary home takes roughly two to four hours depending on size.
What a Deep Clean Adds
A deep clean is a reset. It targets everything a regular clean maintains, plus the buildup that accumulates in places routine cleaning does not reach:
- Inside the oven, fridge and microwave, racks and shelves removed and washed
- Grout scrubbing in showers, tubs and backsplashes
- Behind and underneath furniture and appliances
- Inside kitchen cabinets and drawers
- Light fixtures, ceiling fans, vents, window sills and tracks
- Baseboards, door frames and wall spot cleaning throughout
Expect four to eight hours for a proper deep clean, roughly double a regular visit, which is also reflected in the price: our deep cleans start at $220 versus $90 to $130 for regular packages.
Which One Does Your Home Need?
Choose a deep clean if: it has been more than three months since your last thorough clean, you are moving in or out, you just finished a renovation, you are preparing to host or list your home, or you can see buildup in grout, appliances or corners.
Choose a regular clean if: your home was deep cleaned recently and you want to keep it that way, or you already clean consistently and need help maintaining the standard.
The Smart Sequence: Deep First, Then Regular
The approach we recommend to most new Calgary clients is a deep clean on the first visit, then a recurring weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule to maintain it. This way every recurring visit starts from a properly clean baseline, and recurring clients save 20%, 15% or 10% per visit depending on frequency. It is the most cost-effective way to keep a home genuinely clean year-round.
Still unsure which fits your situation? Ask us, describe your home honestly and we will recommend the right depth, even if that means the cheaper option. We serve all four Calgary quadrants, Monday to Saturday.
